These drawings were purchased by the Capital Arts Center of Taipei in 1993 and were featured in an exhibition there titled "Ulysses' Men at Circe's: Drawings by Warren Criswell."* They were done in the late 1980s, following my photorealistic watercolor period. I had quit the camera cold turkey and was learning to see the world all over again, carrying a sketch pad with me everywhere. Most of these drawings were started in the dark at the Prime Time Club in Little Rock and finished in my studio, using a variety of media, inluding spray paint, quill pens, ballpoint pens, pastels, white charcoal and God knows what else. I had neither shot slides nor kept records of these sketches before they were sold by Cantrell Gallery. But recently I discovered these images by chance on Capital Art Center's website. Déjà vu all over again.
